Tila Phiri, Managing Partner – Ultimate Experience Zambia

Ultimate Experience Zambia. A local event marketing and communications agency headed by Ms Tila Phiri, has launched an initiative dubbed Young African Women Initiative (YAWI) to support young women in Africa through programmes focused on capacity building, mentorship and empowerment.

Launching the initiative at the Gender Equality Conference held in Lusaka over the weekend, Ms Phiri said the initiative would focus on supporting vulnerable women facing incredible challenges in different African regions.

“Under this initiative, we hope to garner support to establish a new educational scheme for young women and a series of academic programmes to be domiciled in different African Universities, specifically to promote women’s rights.” Said Ms Phiri

She has called on the general public to support initiative which will kick off with a free distance learning online Mini MBA in Business Administration. The online business course aimed at giving participants a basic understanding of business and management processes, will be organised by FlexyLearn and certified by the London School of Business and Finance (LSBF)

Registration for the Mini MBA will commence on 1st of November and end on 23rd December, 2016 while the course will commence on 17th January, 2017.

At a time when women especially in African countries, are taking lead in addressing the injustices that have existed for centuries such as rape culture, discrimination and violence, it is quite telling that a hashtag dubbed “Women are Trash” started by a South African male with the username @JustKholii_ is trending on Twitter.  Might we mention, today also also happens to be the International Day of the Girl under the theme “Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress: What Counts for Girls”.
